Compadre Zoysia Grass

Seeding Rate & Planting Time

New turf: Seed Compadre Zoysia grass seed at 1 - 2 pounds per 1,000 square feet or 40 - 80 lbs/acre for broadcast seeding

You can't lose with Compadre Zoysia zoysia grass. It can be seeded on any turf grass project that is specified for zoysia grass use. This variety is an excellent choice to replace common zoysia or any of the other seeded zoysia brands or varieties, as well as a good substitution for some of the vegetative varieties. We buy this Compadre zoysia grass is such large quantities that we can pass the savings on to you.

Golf course tees, fairways & roughs, sports fields, schools, parks and home lawns can all use zoysia for high quality turf.

Leaf Texture

Compadre Zoysia grass will have a leaf width and turf texture more similar to that of Meyer vegetative Zoysia, a medium to medium-fine textured turf grass variety depending on how thick it is seeded.

Mowing

Established Compadre Zoysia grass is generally mowed weekly between 1/2 inch and 2 1/2 inches height depending on turf use. With more frequent mowing, the finer textured seeded zoysias have been successfully maintained at lower mowing heights - as low as 3/8 inch (9 mm). More frequent mowing will also increase the turf density of any of the Zoysia grass cultivars.

Broadcast the seed at or very near the soil surface and incorporate lightly with raking, a light mulch covering or a roller. Zoysia grass seed needs light to germinate, so the seed should be at or very near the surface of the soil for the best germination results. A planting depth of 1/4 inch (5 mm) or shallower gives the best germination results - a deeper planting depth will prolong the germination and establishment time. With the seed so close to the surface, it should be watered quite frequently with light water applications until germination is complete - this will keep the seedlings from drying out as they sprout. A soil temperature of 70 - 80 deg.F (18-25 deg.C) at a 2 inch depth will give the most immediate germination results.

A soil pH between 6.5 and 7.0 is optimum.

Rhizomes & Stolons / Rate of Spread

All zoysia grass varieties spread by surface stolons and underground rhizomes. The presence of rhizomes also increases the hardiness of the variety, for winter survival or drought tolerance. Some vegetative varieties have few rhizomes, mostly spreading by surface stolons or runners. With quality and uniformity at a fraction of the cost for plugs, sprigs or sod Compadre Zoysia grass is primed for quick germination and establishment and is much faster and easier than sprigs or plugs providing full turf cover in 10 to 14 weeks. Compadre Zoysia is a top performer under drought, salt and other stress conditions. It provides early spring green-up, later fall green color and is disease and insect resistant.

Turfgrass Quality, Color & Density

Zoysia species and cultivars vary widely in their density, texture, color and other turf grass quality characteristics. Compadre Zoysia grass is noted for its darker green color and improved density as well as longer lasting green in the fall and earlier green in the spring.
